The project involved replacing the original, poorly functioning, developer installed, kitchen with a new highly functional kitchen with better lighting and a ducted range hood to better suit the couples cooking and baking needs. The new duct was run above the cabinets and into the corner of the adjoining 2 story front room and up through the roof , the most economical option available due to the location of plumbing fixtures in the loft above. This duct routing provided an opportunity to add a corner cabinet in the front room that plays with surface finishes alternating between the paint and oak present in the new adjacent kitchen. It also provides an opportunity to display our clients meaningful objects in their work space. The kitchen is open to the dining room and shares an oak countertop that provides storage on the kitchen side above counter and a vertical storage unit on the dining room side to display keepsakes. Floating wood shelves with recess lighting provide a practical solution for storage in a small kitchen, while helping to make the space feel more generous. The texture of the tile backsplash provides a counterpoint to the clean lines of the painted cabinets.
